The AltRoute Project Has Officially Started!

Representatives of the Jasenice Municipality Tourist Board participated in the kick-off meeting of the AltRoute – Alternative Tourism Routes project, held on 17 and 18 February 2026 in Sveti Petar u Šumi. The two-day meeting brought together project partners from Croatia and Italy within the framework of the Interreg Italy–Croatia 2021–2027 Cross-Border Cooperation Programme and marked the beginning of joint project activities.

The AltRoute project was approved for funding under the Interreg Italy–Croatia Programme, and its implementation officially began on 1 January 2026. The Municipality of Sveti Petar u Šumi is the Lead Partner, while the Jasenice Municipality Tourist Board participates as a project partner, together with the Municipality of San Leonardo and CIVIFORM.

During the kick-off meeting, the partners presented their institutions and defined their respective roles and responsibilities in the implementation of the project. Discussions focused on the project management model, financial framework and budget, communication and promotional activities, as well as mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating project results. The Project Steering Committee was also established to coordinate and oversee the implementation of the planned activities.

Particular emphasis was placed on planning the activities to be implemented over the next 18 months. The AltRoute project focuses on developing new tourism routes based on traditional gastronomy and cultural heritage, promoting sustainable tourism in smaller Adriatic communities, and strengthening cross-border cooperation between Croatia and Italy. As part of the meeting, a working session was also held to further elaborate the project activities and expected results.

Project activities will be implemented over a period of 18 months, until 30 June 2027. The total project budget amounts to EUR 311,634.00, of which 80% is financed through grants provided by the Interreg Italy–Croatia Programme. The budget allocated to the Jasenice Municipality Tourist Board amounts to EUR 76,431.20.

The objective of the AltRoute project is to foster sustainable tourism development through the design and development of alternative tourism experiences, the promotion of slow mobility, and the creation of unique thematic routes that valorise local cultural and enogastronomic heritage, while applying the principles of the circular economy.

Through the implementation of the AltRoute project, the quality of local events will be enhanced, the tourism offer will be enriched with new content and experiences, and the promotion of enogastronomic and traditional heritage will be further strengthened, thereby contributing to the long-term development of small communities in the Adriatic cross-border area.

For the Jasenice Municipality Tourist Board, participation in the project represents an important opportunity to further valorise local heritage, develop new tourism products, and create authentic visitor experiences that will enrich the destination’s tourism offer.

Through its activities, the AltRoute project will contribute to fostering sustainable tourism and promoting the Adriatic way of life through the development of innovative tourism experiences created within the framework of cross-border cooperation between Croatia and Italy.
